The cannibal’s congress: father tongue developed as a continuous exploration in new approaches to drawing. Working on the floor I arranged some of the found objects that I was not going to use in the sculpture on the paper and spray painted over them. Technically the challenge for this work was to combine my detailed charcoal and pencil drawing style with the flat bold shapes of the spray painted surface. Thematically I wanted to create a counter point for the cannibal’s congress: mother tongue, a more authoritarian voice/language. I used the symbol of the shofar in gold to suggest tradition and authority.
